This is an opportunity to explore the theme of children's play and develop an interactive resource that will be used by audiences worldwide.
The British Library, in collaboration with the Institute of Education, the University of Sheffield and the University of East London, is embarking on a innovative project entitled ‘Children's Play in the New Media Age', inspired by the Opie Collection of Children's Games and Songs.
As part of a team of researchers you'll deliver an educational website aimed at a variety of audiences, learners and researchers. Specifically, you'll be involved in selecting, editing and digitising audio recordings, enhancing existing catalogue records and writing descriptive and interpretative content.
Excellent research and organisational skills are essential. It's likely you will have a post-graduate or equivalent qualification in an area such as Childhood Studies, Primary Education, Folklore/Cultural Tradition, Sociology or Social Studies - and you will certainly be familiar with the research output of Peter and Iona Opie.
Basic technical skills and experience of creating educational resources and/or web content are also important. However, training will be provided where required.

The successful applicant will be responsible for, and will teach within, our new MA programme in Digital Anthropology and contribute to general teaching in Material and Visual Culture. We are seeking an efficient, experienced researcher for a study funded by The Leverhulme Trust. The study seeks to explore ‘The socio political impact of virtual world learning on higher education' using participatory action research and will examine staff and students from a wide range of disciplines in Higher Education Institutions across the UK. It will investigate their conceptions of and decisions about the way in which they teach and learn at the socio-political boundaries of reality.
You will have a PhD in education or a related discipline and work closely with the Director of the Learning Innovation Group (Professor Maggi Savin-Baden) to ensure the smooth and efficient running of this study. This post will run for the duration of the study until starting on 10 September 2008, or as soon as possible thereafter. The post will be based at Coventry University, in the Learning Innovation Research Group.
Your experience will include working at a responsible level chiefly in a research environment and use of web 2.0 technologies and use of social networking platforms and familiarity with immersive world such as Second Life will be required. Reporting to the Director of the Learning Innovation Group you will undertake research and support the work of the PhD students appointed to on the project.
It is likely that interviews will take place on the 5th September.

A research associate is sought to contribute to the University of Cambridge's Transkills project. Working independently and with members of the Transkills team, you will use participatory research methods to identify effective modes of engaging academic staff teaching first-year undergraduates in professional development interventions appropriate to Cambridge's academic cultures. The Transkills project is funded by the Teaching Quality Enhancement Fund, an initiative of HEFCE, which will continue until the end of December 2010. The post is available immediately.
You will hold a PhD or have an equivalent level of research experience. Demonstrably capable of swiftly understanding the cultures and values of a research-intensive environment, you may also have experience of teaching, running seminars and workshops and developing instructional materials.
