Imagine my surprise when during Sue's presentation (at the multimodal narratives conference) she calls out for me to read out my text...no pressure then!

I found Sue's presentation fascinating, and Barthes in Textspeak, I loved it... I know in Japan, a whole novel was written for mobile phones, and sent as a serial, like Dickens used to be (a serial, not on mobile phones, although it could be a challenge!) Maybe we could translate Barthes and others, and send them to our students' phones.

yup - i agree that sue's presentation was interesting, and not only because my text was included! But Barthes in txt spk - it seems so fitting.
I'd like to hear more about the Japanese mobile narrative, do you have any links or authors?
I think asking students to translate or transliterate (!) Barthes into txt spk should be our next class assignment! Great idea Cathy.

My Japanese supervisor told me about the serialized txt novel, and it seems to be all the rage over there. Have been reading about all this and will write a post in a few days.
